We've gone digital

The digital TV switch over for Cornwall starts in July, so we have decided to beat the rush and get the job done sooner rather than later. Each room is now equipped with a brand new flat screen TV with HD and freeview, many of which are 22" screens.  DVD players are no longer accommodated in the superior rooms but available to any guests that would like to use one.  In so doing gives much more space in each room.

Early flush of colour expected in spring 2009

We have planted about 350 blue grape hyacinths, snowdrops and daffodils in our front border, and pots, which some are already starting to show. Come and see them flowering between February and April.

Showers in every Bath

During the quieter winter season we have made a few improvements in some of the bathrooms.  We have equipped all bathrooms that have bath tubs with shower sprays on the wall, so that the choice of shower or bath is yours.

Tall ships greeting cards are available

The Tall Ships regatta in early September attracted over 130,000 people to Falmouth, going on board of the Tall ships and watching the Parade of Sail. We took also our chance to have a closer look at the old giants of the see and I took plenty of sail, rope and brass detail-photographs on the ships which are now available as greeting cards.

Shaun and Renate Davie – the new owners of Dolvean House

We like to introduce ourselves, Shaun and Renate Davie, to you as the new owners of Dolvean House. We purchased this lovely home end of March 2008 and are determined to maintain its reputation as an establishment providing the very best in bed & Breakfast and hospitality. Shaun and Renate are both no strangers to Cornwall. Shaun grew up in Cornwall and over the past eight years gained much of his experience in the hotel trade as a deputy manager at the nearby Meudon Hotel. During this time he met Renate who had travelled to Cornwall from Bonn in Germany. She also works as a tour guide showing people the best of Cornwall, including the many gardens, footpaths and coastal scenery. We look forward to meet and welcome you in our new home.

August 2007
Independent Newspaper

We had been told by the Independent newspaper that we feature in their  "The 50 Best British B & B's"  list.

Well, it was published on  Saturday  4th August, 2007, and not only were we listed at Number 11, but the picture of our sign and frontage graced the magazine's front page! .  To say that we were chuffed to bits is an understatement!

Britain in Bloom 2007
We usually enter our local Britain in Bloom competition.  However this year, due to some serious weather damage, we felt the garden wasn't really looking at it's best, and we didn't enter.  On judging day the judges turned up anyway, and awarded us Third Prize!!

New Room Opens for Business
We're delighted to announce that after 6 months of refurbishments, our Killigrew room is finally ready for it's first visitors.  This is a spacious ground floor room, with twin beds, and a superb new bathroom.  We are confident that it will be very popular with guests who prefer not to have to climb the stairs!

Automobile Association Inspection
On 2nd/3rd April 2007 we underwent an overnight assessment by the Automobile Association (the AA),  and we are delighted to announce that the assessor confirmed our  5 Star grading in line with Visit Britain's assessment in February 2007.

Visit Britain Inspection
On 15th/16th February 2007 we underwent an overnight assessment  by Visit Britain's inspection organisation, Quality in Tourism.

We are delighted to announce that the inspectors confirmed our  5 Star grading,  and awarded us a  Gold Award for exceptional levels of quality, comfort, cleanliness, hospitality and service for the fourth consecutive year.

We've won the Silver!
We are delighted to announce that we won the Silver award in the Cornwall Tourist Board's prestigious "Bed and Breakfast of the Year 2006" competition.

We've installed Wi-Fi
We have now installed wireless free broadband which allows access in all bedrooms and public rooms throughout the building.  So bring your laptop and keep in touch with your emails whilst away,  totally free of charge.

We've changed our name!
Visit Britain, Visit Scotland, the Wales Tourist Board and the Automobile Association have decided to reclassify some accommodation providers so that visitors will be able to choose either a hotel (with full hotel facilities) or an establishment that simply offers Bed and Breakfast.

We have decided just to continue to offer the finest quality Bed and Breakfast, and you can be assured that nothing has changed about us other than our name.

More information about the quality standards in hotels, bed and breakfasts, farms etc can be found at the Quality in Tourism web site here, and the Automobile Association web site here.
