Colourful Victorian Garden

Victorian Garden

A small Victorian Garden sits at the rear of our house. It is open to guests and provides a lovely sheltered spot on a hot summer day. Although the north facing situation does limited a choice of plants you can find. But with over 70 species in the garden we do quite well. From January to December there is always one of these in bloom or carrying interesting fruit.

Ttypically for a Victorian house is to have a small Italian garden with a fountain with pebbles and decorative borders. The shadiest corner between the walls contain a small stumpery with tree fern, hellebores and clematis. In the sunny side you find a laurel tree, oriental lilies, an Azara tree, plenty of Agapanthus and lots more.

We are very proud to have won the 2010 Britain in Bloom Bronze prize for small B&B and guest houses in Falmouth.

Our house front patio offers a colourful display throughout the year. You can find about 500 spring flower bulbs (Daffodils, grape hyacinths, snow drops and Hyacinths), a selection of English and subtropical shrubs  (Holly, Fatsia, Fuchsia, Jasmine, Clematis, pink Hydrangea and blue Lace cap Hydrangea and last but not least the Rose border under the Cordylines.

Despite being in the town, we do see plenty of birds enjoying themselves in our garden. Such as the great, blue and long-tailed tits, robins, wrens, nuthatches, song thrushes, jays and starlings. The tits and robins regularly nest in the garden, too. Please help us support RSPB and buy a badge in our lounge.
